About PicoPixel

Design beautiful embedded interfaces — visually, together.

What is PicoPixel?

PicoPixel is a web-based visual design tool purpose-built for embedded user interfaces powered by LVGL. Add widgets to your canvas, style them visually, manage reusable assets, and export production-ready code for your target platform.

Why We Built It

Building UIs for embedded devices has traditionally meant hand-coding pixel coordinates and wrestling with low-level graphics libraries. We believe embedded developers deserve the same visual design experience that web and mobile developers enjoy. PicoPixel bridges that gap.

How It Works

Design your interface in our web-based visual editor using a rich set of widgets — buttons, labels, sliders, charts, and more. Preview your layout in real time with a built-in LVGL simulator, then export clean, optimized code ready to run on your hardware.

Origins

PicoPixel would not exist without Penpot, the open-source design platform. We're incredibly grateful to the Penpot team for making their work available — it gave us the foundation to build on. Over eight months of intensive development, the codebase was overhauled from the ground up — including a custom render engine built specifically for LVGL, a completely reworked widget system, an embedded simulator, and a new code-export pipeline. PicoPixel today is a fundamentally different product tailored entirely for embedded UI development, but none of it would have been possible without Penpot's head start.

Early Access & Limitations

PicoPixel is currently built and maintained by a solo developer, Ed. Because of that, some features are still a work in progress and there may be temporary limitations on usage as the infrastructure scales. Your patience and feedback mean the world — if you run into anything, don't hesitate to reach out.
